When Closeness Breeds Cruelty: Helping Victims of Intimate Partner Violence

Overview:

To identify, comfort, and aid victims, we need to stop turning a blind eye to the problem of domestic abuse.

Purpose/Goal: To provide registered nurses with information on how to recognize victims of intimate partner violence and take appropriate action.


Objectives:

1. Discuss the incidence of intimate partner violence (IPV).
2. Identify the health consequences of the various types of abuse.
3. Describe how to assess a patient for suspected abuse.
4. Discuss appropriate care for victims of IPV.
