Stopping the Silent Progression of Osteoporosis

Overview:

The very first sign of osteoporosis can be its worst outcome—a fracture resulting from depleted bone. That’s why we need to warn people about the dangers of osteoporosis and teach them about the risk factors, preventive measures, and treatment.

Purpose/Goal: To provide registered nurses with strategies to prevent osteoporosis and information to help them educate patients about prevention strategies and care for patients with the disease.


Objectives:

1. State the pathophysiology of osteoporosis.
2. Identify preventive measures for osteoporosis.
3. Describe how bone mass is measured.
4. Discuss the treatment of osteoporosis.
