Overview:

The nine provisions for the Code of Ethics for Nurses guide nurses to practice ethically and serve as a resource when the nurse is faced with an ethical dilemma, which is common in nursing practice. By being familiar with the Code of Ethics for Nurses, nurses can feel better prepared to meet the challenge of an ethical dilemma.

Purpose/Goal: To familiarize nurses with the Code of Ethics for Nurses so they can be better prepared to meet the challenge of an ethical dilemma.


Objectives:

1. Identify at least three purposes of a code of ethics.
2. State the nine provisions of the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
3. Apply a strategy for analyzing an ethical problem.
