Overview:

Treating wounds effectively requires an understanding of how the body responds to wounds as well as how the medical field approaches the subject. This course covers the history of wound treatments, the anatomy of tissue layers and surgical wound classifications, and the healing process. In addition, this course describes the complications of wound healing, surgical drains, and types of dressings.


Objectives:

• Appreciate the history of wound treatments.
• Describe the structure and function of tissue layers and surgical wound classifications.
• Describe the healing processList and define complications of wound healing.
• Describe the types of surgical drains.
• Describe the types of dressings and the steps in assisting the application of dressings.
