In this course nurses will learn more about various medications that alter blood coagulation and blood vessel injuries.

Purpose/Goal: To provide nurses with the information they need to better manage patients receiving drugs that alter blood coagulation.

2. Discuss the various medications that alter coagulation.
3. Describe nursing care for patients receiving drugs that alter coagulation.


Amy M. Karch, RN, MS, is an associate professor of clinical nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing in Rochester, New York with over 30 years experience teaching pharmacology, pathophysiology and clinical application to undergraduate and graduate students in nursing programs. She has authored numerous drug guides, nursing pharmacology text books, regular AJN column on patient safety.
