Overview:

Chest tubes are commonly used in healthcare, so nurses need a periodic reminder as to the proper care of them. This activity covers vital information to nurses who care for patients with chest tubes.

Purpose/Goal: To enhance nurses’ understanding of chest tubes and chest-tube care.


Objectives:

1. Identify purposes and function of chest tubes.
2. Describe chest tube insertion.
3. Discuss the nursing care of a patient with a chest tube.
