What Every Nurse Should Know About Hemophilia

With increasing patient complexity in the healthcare environment, one diagnosis that requires particularly complex care is a bleeding disorder.  Learn about the causes of hemophilia, current treatments, and important nursing considerations.

Purpose/Goal: The purpose of this activity is to enable the nurse to gain information they need to better manage patients with hemophilia.


1. Differentiate the types and severity classification of hemophilia
2. Describe treatment of hemophilia
3. Discuss nursing considerations for patients with hemophilia


Ms. Hitch is a registered nurse and has served patients at the East Tennessee Comprehensive Hemophilia Center for the past 5 years. She has served as faculty for a regional patient education meeting regarding genetics and hemophilia.
