Management of Neurologic Alterations
HealthStream
Overview:
Cerebrovascular accidents, commonly referred to as strokes, are the third leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of neurologic dysfunction. The cost for the care and treatment of stroke patients, including loss of productivity, has been estimated at $30 billion per year. Exact assessment is crucial. A nurse needs to know not only know the signs and symptoms of strokes but also the proper care of patients with strokes. Subarachnoid hemmorrhages, which account for less than 10% of all strokes, but 40% of the mortality associated with strokes, are also covered.
Objectives:
• Explain the attributes, assessments, and interventions for cerebral vascular accidents.
• Discuss subarachnoid hemorrhages and their complications.
